2013 Survey on Learning and Development Trends in NZ Organisations

In early 2013 Muritai conducted a survey of 52 New Zealand organisations about the learning and development needs and trends.  Together these organisations employ over 100 000 people making it probably the largest survey of its kind conducted in New Zealand.

Five main trends emerged from the research:

  1. In the next two years, NZ organisations are planning to invest heavily in leadership development.
  2. The two big focus areas are building bench strength and building the organisation’s culture
  3. While organisations might have processes for identifying high potential employees and emerging leaders, few are actively managing their development.
  4. More successful development programmes are those the organisation does itself.
  5. In the next two years, there will be more organisational or manager-led development.
